Fernando Alonso will carry the no: 8 on his Ferrari next year to Felipe Massa’s no: 7 as it has been revealed by the FIA’s official entry list for 2010.
This was expected since massa is the existing driver with Alonso the new kid on the block. Normal school of thought is that the no: of titles would have afforded Alonso seniority over Massa. But it dosnt work that way.
Unless the incoming driver is the reigning world champion/newly crowned champion, there is no requirement that the more successful driver must be the bear the leading number. Its really upto Ferrari to decide on who gets to keep which number. Its only expected that Massa will be given preference especially after his accident and the fact that he is much loved by the team along with his seniority due to time spent as a Ferrari driver. This is a fair and balanced call in every sense.
